Summary
Sonometer is a sound-level meter for Android. It measures audio entirely on the device it runs on. It does not have permission to access the network, so it is technically incapable of sending anything anywhere. No personal data, analytics, advertising identifiers, or crash reports are collected, and nothing is shared with any third party.
How audio is processed
When you start a measurement, Sonometer reads audio from the microphone and analyses it in real time to compute sound-level values (dB(A), spectrum, and related statistics). This analysis happens entirely on your device. Raw audio is not stored, and it is never uploaded anywhere — Sonometer has no network permission of any kind.
Data storage
If you choose to save a measurement session, its data (levels over time, timestamps, and any labels you add) is written to local storage on your device only. You can delete individual sessions or all stored data from within the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all of its stored data along with it.
Data collection, analytics, and advertising
Sonometer does not collect personal data. It does not use analytics or telemetry services, does not include advertising identifiers or ad networks, and does not send crash or diagnostic reports off the device. Because the app has no network permission, none of this is even technically possible in the current version.
Children's privacy
Sonometer does not collect data from anyone, including children. Since no information about any user is gathered, transmitted, or stored outside the device, there is no data about children for us to hold or process.
Permissions used
- Record Audio — required to measure sound levels from the microphone. Audio is processed on-device and is not saved unless you explicitly start a recording session.
- Post Notifications — used to show the persistent notification required while a measurement session runs in the background.
- Foreground Service / Foreground Service Microphone — used to keep a measurement session running reliably in the background, with a visible ongoing notification, per Android's requirements for microphone access from a background service.
Sonometer requests no other permissions. In particular, it does not request Internet or network access.
